Scran has recently updated its systems to support ATHENS Single Sign On (SSO). As a result, the way in which ATHENS users log into the Scran service will change. Instead of the normal login prompt all ATHENS users will be required to use a new URL address to access Scran. The new URL is http://athens.scran.ac.uk/homepage/ Could all users and site administrators please update thir web links to point to the new address as soon as possible, as the current ATHENS login service will be suspended as of Friday 5th of November.

Sonja Camero, LTSN Subject Centre for History, Classics & Archaeology has used Scran images in a new ICT Briefing Paper for students using images as a primary source.

Scran has been awarded a Highly Recommended rating by Schoolzone for its provision of educational resources on a web service.

A new educational website www.commonwealthonline.info focussing on the Commonwealth was launched to tie in with the 15th Conference of Commonwealth Education Ministers which will be held in Edinburgh in October 2003.

We are delighted to offer an additional service to all our subscribing schools. The Statistical Accounts is a wonderful resource for education. HE and FE already have direct access through the JISC sponsored service EDINA and now Scran and EDINA have come together to offer that access to schools. Fred Guy [pictured left] of the National Library of Scotland declared these two important Dundee Library projects live on Tuesday 22 April. He thanked the Dundee Library team for their hard work and also congratulated Scran on its management of the whole RLS project.

Since going live early in the New Year, albums have proved a massive success. At the last count, there were over 1,500 active albums with more being created every day!

You may have noticed some new links on the site recently, ‘add to album’ and ‘manage albums’. These links are for a new tool we have introduced that lets you create electronic albums of Scran material.
