Painting of Annan town house, built 1740, demolished 1870.

The town house at Annan, painted in 1877 to commemorate the opening of the new town hall in 1878. It shows the old town house, built in 1740, with a steeple which was added in 1795 but removed in the 1850s because it was unsafe. The main building was demolished in 1870. The gaol was housed on the ground floor, as can be seen from the barred windows.
