At Gows by J.D. Ferguson.

This portrait, painted by Fergusson in 1925, is of a fashionable young woman wearing a close fitting cloche hat.

In fashion terms the modern, stream-lined shape of the cloche were demanding and explained an increasing demand for eye and lip cosmetics. To achieve this, sperm whales died, usually in great pain.
