Increasing
numbers of people are looking for respite from hectic urban living
and want a chance to escape and find serenity within these beautiful
landscapes. People have long argued that an essential component of
this wilderness is freedom; freedom to go where and when you like
and freedom from all the rules and regulation that govern much of
our urban living.
Days
in the wilderness help restore some calm into your life - it's a
way of slowing down, unwinding and throwing off many of the stresses
of modern life. Isn't it ironic then that wilderness country is
becoming scarcer at a time when it is increasingly needed and our
elected representatives are doing so little to protect these areas.
I
also have reservations about the type of tourist the operators of
the funicular railway are trying to attract. When asked why they
wanted a funicular railway, a representative from Cairngorm Mountain
Ltd replied "it's for the zimmer brigade".

Is
the funicular for the older generation only?
