The
Funicular
The
current funicular railway is reached by following the ski road at
the foot of Cairn Gorm to the Coire Cas car park. Here you will
find the ticket office and base station for the railway. This is
where the funicular starts its descent. The funicular carriages
are enclosed, protecting passengers from the elements during the
winter months, and can transport visitors to the top station - the
Ptarmigan - in under 10 minutes. The word funicular comes from the
Latin word fanis which means rope. Basically it is a steel rope
which pulls and lowers the train up and down the mountainside.
