Imagine
even considering such a monstrosity, never mind it actually going
ahead. What about those who use the mountains for leisure? Significant
numbers of people are involved in recreational activities such as
mountaineering and hillwalking - indeed, sustain local businesses.
Yet the funicular railway development discriminates against us. Indeed,
on page 13 of the visitor management plan (VMP) the Cairngorm Mountain
Ltd states,
"the
more stringent management of visitors to the development …will almost
certainly make Cairngorm less attractive to hillwalkers"
The
VMP constantly mentions the "long walk in" However, the long walk
in is about protecting the qualities associated with remoteness.
Surely one has to question this when cars heading for the funicular
drive past you - it's not exactly remote is it?
