So,
I thought it might be useful to begin by explaining why the site was
so important. The development site was within the existing Cairngorm
ski area. The ski area lies within the Cairngorm Mountains National
Scenic Area and adjacent to the Cairngorms Special Area of Conservation
(SAC) and Cairngorms Special Protection Area (SPA).
A National Scenic Area (NSA) is Scotland's national designation
for its most outstanding area. The NSAs are for areas of such national
importance that there is a great need to protect and improve them
as part of the country's natural heritage. Special Areas of Conservation
are sites of European importance and have been designated under
European Union Directives.

The
Cairngorm area is popular with tourists, however the environment
must be protected.
