The selection firstly illustrates the history of the Leadhills Miners Library itself, founded in 1741 by working men for their own self-improvement, creating the UK's first subscription library. It then includes some items to illustrate the miners' working lives. The selection also illustrates the range and nature of social institutions developed in this isolated industrial community.

Works of art, relics and souvenirs relating to the
1797 Battle of Camperdown and Admiral Adam Duncan, Scottish
Commander of the North Sea Fleet, victorious in the battle.
The collection is held by the Camperdown Project Consortium,
comprising Dundee City Council Arts & Heritage Department (who
also managed the project), The National Galleries of Scotland,
The National Museums of Scotland and a private collection.
