Session
9 focuses on Claire, manager of a ski hire company in Aviemore and
a very keen skier. She thinks the proposed extension is a wonderful
idea. Having a mountain railway means that not only can more skiers
get to the summit, which translates to more profit for her company,
but she can also go skiing more often! The journey between the car
park and the Ptarmigan top station - 2km - is now taken fully enclosed
from the elements. It only takes five minutes - a huge improvement
on the twenty five minutes it took on the chairlift and lots more
time for skiing! The old chairlift was a nightmare as it had to close
in winds above 25 miles per hour - a common occurrence in the Cairngorms.
However, the new mountain railway can cope with winds up to 80 miles
per hour. All in all, the mountain railway has improved Claire's life
and she'll certainly support an extension. |

base station of the mountain railway (if you look closely towards
the middle of the photograph you can see the carriage approaching
the base station).
