Hi, I'm Jackie and I'm the manager of the Tourist Information Centre (TIC) here in Aviemore. I'd just like to begin by saying I am totally in favour of this funicular extension - the original development has reaped loads of benefits for the local area and I'm sure this proposed extension could do the same. The funicular was a very important project in revitalising the economy of the local area. Visitor numbers were falling and the ski industry really was in the doldrums. But what a difference we have seen since it opened in December 2001. It has proven a major attraction to visitors - both winter and summer - and has provided spin-off benefits throughout the whole area. In fact, it has underpinned 2,500 tourist jobs and has gone a long way to boosting the area's reputation as a top-class skiing destination. |
