As
you probably know this means we operate a closed system - visitors
will not be permitted to leave the Ptarmigan building at the top and
walkers will not be permitted to enter. In all honesty, it was the
least favoured option available to us but was necessary to gain planning
permission.
So,
although we would have preferred an alternative to the "closed system"
we are more than delighted with the success of the funicular. The
old White Lady chairlifts just had to go and the funicular was the
obvious answer. It offers a far more modern, comfortable and reliable
method of transportation and it's so much quicker - it takes less
than 5 minutes to travel the 2 km from the base station to the Ptarmigan
and can carry 1200 passengers per hour in winter. This has meant
a great reduction in the queuing time for skiers - and a reduction
in customers' complaints for us!

can take photos at the Ptarmigan building but you are not allowed
to leave the balcony.
