Half the time these opponents, if we're honest about it, weren't really interested in the environmental argument - they were more interested in how the funicular was going to affect them and the truth of the matter is not a great deal.

The access to Coire Cas car park remains unrestricted with free car parking, toilets, ranger information and café facilities. There is an on-going programme of footpath work and Forest Enterprise are planning a new footpath from Glenmore to Coire car park. Access to the Cairngorms from the car park remains for those who enjoy walking and climbing in the higher hills.

The main change for walkers is that, in the past, they could use the chairlift to gain quick and easy access to the Cairngorm plateau - this is no longer the case. What they have to remember, however, is the entire Cairngorm range is Britain's largest nature reserve. Large parts of the mountain are protected by European Environmental Law and we are obliged to operate a visitor management plan to ensure its protection.

Access to the car park remains unrestricted.
