There
was however one key area that we objected to. We were concerned that
the development would lead to an increased number of visitors, all
year round, which would pose a threat to the adjacent Cairngorms SAC.
After considerable discussions with a range of interested bodies,
a visitor management plan (VMP) was proposed to mitigate our concern
regarding the potential impacts. The primary purpose of the VMP
was to avoid deterioration of the European Union sites adjacent
to the Cairngorm ski area, as a direct result of the operation of
the funicular. It was agreed by all parties that the VMP should
be legally underpinned by conditions attached to the planning permission.
The VMP is enshrined within a section 50 (s50) planning agreement.
The
principal purpose of this agreement is to ensure that the development
proposed is managed in such a way that it will not adversely affect
the integrity of the European sites.

The
VMP states that non skiing visitors are not allowed onto the mountain,
they must remain on the viewing platform.
