However the chosen system was the key mechanism which allowed SNH to be confident that the operation of the funicular would not adversely impact on the European sites. As pointed out earlier, our remit is not to merely preserve Scotland's natural heritage - we have to give people the opportunity to enjoy the countryside.

Therefore although we managed to find a solution to the original funicular railway I think enough is enough. Here at SNH we cannot be seen to advocate any more damage to this extremely fragile

environment and we oppose the proposals for an extension to the current funicular railway.
