On the other hand, tourism has the potential to create beneficial effects on the environment by contributing to environmental protection and conservation. It is a way to raise awareness of environmental values and it can serve as a tool to finance protection of natural areas and increase their economic importance.

Socio-cultural impacts have been called 'people' impacts and they are the impacts on the local community of the influx of tourists. There can be positive impacts such as the reintroduction of local arts and crafts and greater understanding between cultures.

However, there are also a number of negative impacts such as overcrowding, causing a reduction in the quality of life for local people, tourists inappropriate behaviour and increases in crime..


Tourism can also help preserve the environment.
