On
the other hand, tourism has the potential to create beneficial effects
on the environment by contributing to environmental protection and
conservation. It is a way to raise awareness of environmental values
and it can serve as a tool to finance protection of natural areas
and increase their economic importance.
Socio-cultural
impacts have been called 'people' impacts and they are the impacts
on the local community of the influx of tourists. There can be positive
impacts such as the reintroduction of local arts and crafts and
greater understanding between cultures.
However,
there are also a number of negative impacts such as overcrowding,
causing a reduction in the quality of life for local people, tourists
inappropriate behaviour and increases in crime..
