It
sounds great doesn't it - all that money pouring in from skiing? As
the figures suggest though, the figure of £12 million is for a 'good
season'. Unfortunately, in the last few years we've not had many of
those. It's been so frustrating - we've had plenty of snow - but also
plenty of wind - so skiers couldn't get to the slopes. Is it really
any wonder that skiers were heading to resorts overseas where they
were guaranteed good snow conditions?
That
all changed with the funicular however. Now skiers can get up to
the slopes in winds of up to 80 miles per hour and our winter visitor
numbers were excellent. The funicular has also proven a great summer
attraction, with visitors keen to soak up the gorgeous views - without
all the effort of having to climb up there! So, economically, the
funicular has been a resounding success. What's also important are
the associated socio-cultural benefits.

The
funicular created many jobs throughout its construction.
