What
do I mean? Well, socio-cultural impacts really mean people impacts-
they are about the effects on the people who live in local communities
(such as Aviemore) of their association with tourists. I really
think that tourism is a great thing for promoting understanding
between people of different nationalities and cultures. I'm very
privileged in my job to be able to meet people from all around the
world. We regularly have guests arriving from all over Europe as
well as from much further afield - countries such as USA and Canada
and even from Japan, Australia and New Zealand.
Nothing
gives me greater pleasure than chatting to guests from overseas,
finding out why they've come and what they're interested in doing
during their stay. However, I'm not the only one who gets to mix
with these visitors - there's the Bed and Breakfast owners, the
staff working in bars and cafes, not to mention all the locals when
everyone gets chatting over a dram of whisky or two on a Saturday
night!

Visits
to Whisky distilleries are popular for many of the tourists who
visit the area.
