Culturally,
tourism has brought benefits to the local area and has helped ensure
that local culture and traditions can flourish. You only have to visit
the large hotels on a Saturday night to see the resurgence of the
traditional ceilidh. Both residents and tourists alike are having
a ball as they swirl and twirl to the sound of an accordion band.
These ceilidhs are incredibly popular and one of the attractions most
requested here at the TIC - it's well known that us Scots love to
party!
Yet
only a few years ago there were very few, if any ceilidhs in the
area. The resurgence of this great Scottish tradition can be attributed
to the interest shown by visitors to the area. Thank goodness -
wouldn't it be such a shame to let a tradition enjoyed by your granny
and probably your granny's granny just die away?
