Weathered
sub-circular pitchstone balls (13)
Pitchstone is
a glassy volcanic rock found in several parts of the Isle of Arran,
Corriegills being the most commonly known location.
It
belongs to the British Tertiary Volcanic period.
These balls are made of smooth, dark green pitchstone and are weathered
and rolled until they have a lustrous surface.
Pitchstone was used in prehistoric times for making tools.
