of a glacial erratic south of Corrie, Arran, Buteshire
South of Corrie, Arran. An erratic, a granite boulder ice-transported
eastwards from the main Northern Granite mass during the last glaciation.
Erratics are a characteristic feature of glaciated regions and are
common on Arran.
Most of the erratic boulders and blocks of Arran are of local origin,
a phenomenon thought to be due to the protecting influence of the
local ice-cap. It is estimated that these large erratics can be
up to 400 tons in weight.
