New Features on Scran
This article introduces you to recent, new features on Scran. It covers Maps and Google Maps, Firefox Plugin, Multicreate, Features in Searches, Subject Navigator and some new technical features.
Maps and Google Maps
Want to see Maps? If we have a location for an object or scene, a new Map option is available in the tool bar under every "geo-tagged" image.
Click Map and a clever little box opens listing the available Scran maps; or if you'd like to see it in Google Maps or Google Earth, you can "mash" up to them. Try it - it's dead easy.
Hint: Just click Maps under the image. It works right away.
Hint 2: For Google Earth, described as "flying through the air" download free for Apple and PC here.
Firefox Plug-in
Firefox is a great browser - we love it. It includes a little search window at top right that usually searches Google. However, download our Firefox plug-in and search Scran from that same box from any site. Brilliant!
Hint: Get the plugin here.
Multicreate
Many of you will be used to our Create tool which allows you to create an instant flashcard, postcard, poster, worksheet or calendar. It's great for just one image. You will also know about Albums - a way of collecting material together for your own personal use. So... here is Multicreate. Select Multicreate in your Album and you can make a booklet with a Title image and then pages of worksheets or an image a month Calendar. Just try it - it's great and it now works just like Create.
Hint: Open Stuff [Top Right Corner]; choose or make an Album; Select Tools Menu in the Album and choose Multicreate.
Hint 2: While in an Album, Select View Menu and Slides. They are cool too.
Scran Features
You will have probably read a feature on Scran from time to time. These are the full stories on a specific person, event or theme that appear in the third column on the front page. They are great introductory articles. There's a whole set of them and they get added to monthly. We don't throw them away. They can all be found in the Features Index - the link is under the current front page features - and now you can find them in searches too.
Subject Navigator
So you are a teacher and have a pressing curriculum requirement? Go to Subject Navigator and click till you get the resource. It's slick and easy.
Hint: Select Schools in main menu on left and choose Subject Navigator. Or click to Navigate.
Other New Stuff for Techie Types
Hint: Shut your eyes if you ain't techie!
