Battle of Prestonpans, 21 September 1745

31st October, 2011

The Battle of Prestonpans was the beginning of the last Jacobite campaign to reinstate a Stuart Monarch on the throne and was led by Prince Charles Edward Stuart, grandson of James VII of Scotland and II of England and Ireland. It was a victory over the government redcoat army of the Hanoverian George II led by General Sir John Cope, Briitish Commander-in-Chief in Scotland who had the misfortune to comand an inexperienced army to crush the rebellion and who was routed inless than 15 minutes.
