World War One
During the last year or so, we have been working behind the scenes, generating a range of new Pathfinders to commemorate World War One. There are vast amounts of material held on Scran from various collections such as Poppy Scotland, the Victoria & Albert Museum and items from the collections of the National Library of Scotland, to mention but a few. We have gathered and compiled records which provide additional insight into the people and events of the War. You'll find extracts from the diaries, official war photography, correspondence from courageous men & women, personal items, propaganda, publications, private letters and family postcards.
August 2014 is the 100 year anniversary of the outbreak of World War One. There are key dates and events from the years 1914-18 which you can explore using Scran, such as the train crash at Quintinshill, the Battle of Jutland , the Battle of Arras or Armistice Day. We will be continuing our work to bring you even more content in the coming months, so watch this space.
Scran is a partner of the First World War Centenary project headed by the Imperial War Museum. To find out more about the partnership visit www.1914.org
