Limestone was once quarried from the Carboniferous cliffs behind Corrie village. It was excavated to create the Old Harbor, as well as for its use in the production of lime for cement and for the liming of the local acidic soils for agricultural purposes. Adits and mine openings can be located inland from the harbor at Corrie. These are dangerous and it is strongly advised that they are not entered.
